Wikimedia Fundraiser 2008

As you can see, obviously, this post is in English for a wider reading audience, and this has been my first post for this month. I don’t really have time nowadays to blog but I’ll try.
Well, the banner above is the Wikimedia Foundation’s banner for their fundraiser this year. So support. Wikimedia and its projects, most notably Wikipedia, help millions of people everyday on their everyday lives. Wikimedia projects are especially helpfull on students like me, especially on research projects.
In short, Wikipedia is the largest encyclopedia in history, and the largest collaboration of its kind. Wikipedia is written by approximately 115,000 volunteers around the globe, and that includes me.
By donating to Wikimedia, you help run its projects. Wikimedia needs our money in order to support their ever growing site traffic, electricity costs and payment to their small staff. Also a part of the money that you donate will go to the further development of the MediaWiki software, the software used to run its projects, which would make it more aesthetically pleasing thus easier editing and reading.
Now if you are worried where you’re money would go, Wikimedia is fully transparent. Their expenditures are all enlisted in their financial reports; you can see that on their site, which is accessible through the banners above and below this post.
Also, many people criticise Wikipedia and its sister projects for its openness; openness which can be used by vandals and other psychotic individuals to vandalise and post anomalous information on Wikipedia articles. However, we must not forget that also through this openness, the ever growing community of 115,000 volunteers are combating the vandalisms that are being posted on its pages. And also through this community, we have been able to, again, build the largest, most accurate, and most updated encylopedia in the world.
Your money, time, and campaigning efforts would really help. Please donate to the Wikimedia Foundation so that we could enlighten even the darkest corners of the world. This would be one of your most humanitarian actions in our life. However small, your donation would really help.
