Tagalog orthography: exceptions 3
August 27, 2008This is pretty much a short post which discusses the Tagalog totoo (true) and oo (yes), and their derivatives. Totoo and oo
The Tagalog totoo [tʊˈtʊʔo], meaning “true”, is an exception to the rule. The “o” at the first syllable never becomes “u” on all of its derivatives, such as katoto (friend; lit.: truth-mate), katotohanan (truth) et cetera.
Oo [ˈoʔo](yes) is also an exception. Opo, a derivative, also is.
